BIPOC CREATIVE WRITING GROUP

A space for people of colour to connect, create, and grow

About Us

BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) writers group is a space where we can write stories and poems we might not feel comfortable writing anywhere else. A creative group where we think and feel we are not alone in our experiences. A group where you put down the responsibility of being on guard. It is a place where writers of BIPOC background can begin to creatively shape how we are portrayed in society.

The group is for, us, BIPOC is a term that adequately acknowledges our identities as together but distinct. BIPOC Writing Community is open to ALL people of colour. You don’t need to identify as a writer, just show up with writing tools and a desire to connect. You won’t have to share what you write, but you can!

What We Do (Meeting Overview)

At our gatherings, we spend time writing together through guided prompts and quiet writing sessions (20–30 minutes with breaks in between). After writing, there is space for optional sharing, creative discussion, and conversations around storytelling, craft, identity, and creativity.

Together, we explore how we can create characters and narratives that authentically represent our experiences, while carving out greater space for BIPOC voices within the Australian literary and publishing landscape.

Gathering Format

Our gatherings are held online via Zoom once a month, with occasional in-person events, collaborations, and community gatherings throughout the year.
