BIPOC CREATIVE WRITING GROUP

A space for people of colour to connect, create, and grow

About Us

BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) writers group is a space where we can write stories and poems we might not feel comfortable writing anywhere else. A creative group where we think and feel we are not alone in our experiences. A group where you put down the responsibility of being on guard. It is a place where writers of BIPOC background can begin to creatively shape how we are portrayed in society.

The group is for, us, BIPOC is a term that adequately acknowledges our identities as together but distinct. BIPOC Writing Community is open to ALL people of colour. You don’t need to identify as a writer, just show up with writing tools and a desire to connect. You won’t have to share what you write, but you can!

What We Do (Meeting Overview)

At these events, we will spend time writing (20-30 minutes with breaks in between), after we write, we have time for optional sharing, sharing writing tips and how to enhance creativity. We also discuss how we can better create characters that truly represent us, and how we can begin to carve a niche for BIPOC Australians in the publishing industry and make them more mainstream.
